INTERVIEW BY CAREERS 360 OF IIT MAINS TOPPER 2014

Careers360: Congratulations! What does it mean for you to be in JEE Main 2014 toppers’ club?
Saurabh: Thank you.  Though, I was confident of breaking the 300 barrier, still it is really nice feeling to actually cross that mark. To me, my result has alerted me to be more focused for the next stage of the exam. But, I am trying not to be too happy. I am definitely not nervous but I am currently more focused toward JEE Advanced 2014.
Careers360: What was your overall and section-wise score?
Saurabh: Mytotal score was 325. I scored 115 in physics, 110 in Mathematics and 100 in Chemistry.

Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for JEE(mains) 2014?
Saurabh: I started preparing for JEE since I was in grade 9. So, it’s been four years of planned preparation for this exam now.  Physics was my strongest subject.  However, I don’t claim the same level of interest in Chemistry as I feel if you interpret the question wrong  in this subject you will always end up with the wrong conclusion.
Careers360: Whatwasyourexam taking strategy for JEE Main 2014?
Saurabh: JEE Main 2014 has 90questions to be solved within a 180 minutes duration. Therefore, a candidate gets exactly 2 minutes per question. I had prepared myself for this pressure by practicing as much as possible. My strategy was to attempt physics first, followed by Chemistry and Maths.

Careers360: How did you mentally prepare oneself for JEE Main?
Saurabh: Themain point is not to lose concentration. It is important to know about your strength and weaknesses. Hard work is not enough. There should be a plan of action.
Careers360:  So,did you do anything for recreation?
Saurabh: I am an avid fan of Mahabharat.I believe it gives you an insight into life. I watched it most often. Also, I play squash in my free time. It helps me to relax.
Careers360: Did you also join any coaching institute? How it helped you?
Saurabh: Yes I took coaching classes from FITTJEE. It taught me to have a “You can do it” attitude.
Careers360: What role did your family play in the process?
Saurabh: There was absolutely no pressure from the family. My Father is content with hard work. His dream is for me to study further.
Careers360: Which are your dream IITs’?
Saurabh: I wish to get through IIT Bombay or Kanpur.
Careers360: Which is your preferred Engineering branch?
Saurabh: My preferred branch is Electrical Engineering. However, I have kept my options open. That depends on my performance in JEE Advanced 2014 and counseling sessions there after.
