Congress in Gujarat wants common admission procedure

AHMEDABAD: The Congress in Gujarat has demanded that three top institutes in and around the city, Nirma University, Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT) and Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), join the common admission process for filling all seats in the degree engineering courses.

Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said on Saturday that these three institutes should admit all their students from the merit list prepared by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) on the basis of JEE (main) and HSC exam. JEE is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

According to Doshi, these three institutes run their individual admission procedures and collect form fee in the range of Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,200 from each student. "Altogether, these three institutes collect around Rs 3.62 crore every year and this puts a huge burden on the students,'' he said.

He said that high fee for admission form was hindering many meritorious but poor students from filling up forms for these institutes.
